This past spring, several members of the WES team were on-site to share their expertise in international education at the NAFSA 2024 Annual Conference & Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana.
By participating in several panel discussions and poster fair presentations, along with hosting a booth in the expo hall, our team had the opportunity to connect with numerous members of the international education community. View some highlights in the gallery on the left and explore our conference resource library.
A sizable share of Americans and Canadians who study medicine abroad attend so-called offshore medical schools. The Caribbean basin has the largest concentration of these types of schools worldwide. Stefan Trines, Regional Desk Officer at WES, explains further in this article for WENR.
WES, Upwardly Global, and the National Council for Workforce Education (NCWE) collaborated in the webinar “Unlocking Global Talent: Expanding Opportunities Through Community College Initiatives.”
In this webinar, WES’ Debra Means-West moderated a conversation between Upwardly Global’s Emily Logo and Teresita Wisell of SUNY Westchester Community College and NCWE. The panelists discussed ways to address the challenges faced by the more than 2 million college-educated immigrants who experience unemployment and underemployment in the U.S. The conversation also explored the vital role community colleges play in championing workforce inclusion efforts and connecting immigrant and refugee students to career opportunities. In 2023, WES supported refugees and displaced individuals, serving 5,300 individuals through the WES Gateway Program alongside more than 120 community partners. Collaborations with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and Qualification Check further enhanced WES’ efforts to support global mobility among the many communities we serve. WES is transitioning to a new and improved application experience for our customers. This new technology has led to minor changes in the formatting of our evaluation reports which report recipients may notice. You will continue to see an authentication statement on the reports you receive and can trust that each evaluation will always be based on authentic, verified documents. Also, as we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we have refreshed our brand platform and identity. You may notice (or have already seen) our updated logo, color scheme, and overall design aesthetic in our materials and communications channels.
We are proud to announce our latest investment, in 8B Education Investments, a fintech company dedicated to supporting African students’ pursuit of higher education at global universities. It is estimated that two-thirds of African students with offers from global universities fail to enroll because of a lack of financing. Through this partnership, WES’ catalytic investment will help 8B unlock even more potential capital for students pursuing educational and career goals.
