Dear Friends,
I hope your 2024 is off to a great start, and I am excited about all that we are going to accomplish together in the year ahead.
At WES, we’re devoted to the global mobility and success of immigrants, refugees, international students, and their communities. For 50 years, WES has been helping people learn, work, and thrive in new places. We work at the intersection of education, workforce development, philanthropy, policy, advocacy, and research. And we understand that there is power in collaboration, co-creation, and partnership. We get farther, faster, together.
As a diverse, global team, many of our staff have lived the immigrant experience firsthand, including myself. My family came to Canada when I was a young teenager. In Kenya my dad had been a successful businessman. He was fluent in English and had an impressive accounting background. But in Canada, his lack of Canadian work experience kept him out of all but the most menial jobs. At one point, he took a job cleaning washrooms at a golf club to support our family.
Even at that early age, I knew there was something wrong—that people shouldn’t have to struggle so hard to give their best or build a future in their new country. That knowledge has shaped my career and life.
Since then, I have dedicated myself to welcoming newcomers. I began as an employment counselor, pursued a career in public service, and now serve as the Managing Director of Canada and Deputy Executive Director of WES.
As we celebrate our 50th anniversary as an organization, I am proud of all that we have accomplished together. And I am excited about all that we can achieve in partnership with incredible individuals and organizations to create and accelerate change. Together, we can build a brighter future where everyone can contribute their skills and talents wherever they are and wherever they go.
Sincerely,
Shamira Madhany
Managing Director, Canada and Deputy Executive Director

A DxD report is suitable for multiple purposes including first-year admissions to a higher education institution, employment, professional licensing or certification, and immigration to the United States.
A DxD report can be used for other purposes. In addition to first-year admissions to a higher education institution, candidates may use this report for employment, professional licensing or certification, and immigration to the United States.
WES recommends a DxD report for immigration to the U.S.
A CxC report is most suitable for transfer credit or graduate admissions to a higher education institute and professional licensing or certification. A CxC report verifies an applicant’s credentials, such as degrees and certificates. It also contains a detailed analysis of completed coursework and a converted grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.

Here is a quick look at how we have grown:
With WES as your credential evaluation partner, we strive to help you save time and effort—and allow your staff to focus on other essential tasks and projects. Here is what one of our partners, Niagra College, had to say about working with WES.
“We appreciate the service [WES has] provided over the years in streamlining our recruitment process. It has saved us a considerable amount of time.”
A credential evaluation is a common requirement for internationally educated candidates seeking higher education, licensing, or employment. But did you know that a WES credential evaluation does not expire? This means a credential evaluation report can be a valuable tool throughout our applicants’ entire educational and professional career. Lorinda Grogg, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Collaboration, explains more in an article for the WES Advisor Blog.
As international student trends shift, admissions officers need to know where to focus their recruitment efforts—and why. Discover the latest data and insights from the Institute of International Education in this panel discussion with the Chronicle of Higher Ed.
The team at WES is passionate about international education and mobility—and are committed to sharing their expertise to help our partners and applicants succeed. They offer their guidance in WES publications like the WES Advisor Blog and World Education News and Reviews. WES staff also regularly give presentations at conferences and participate in panel discussions on international education trends, issues, and policies.

The WES Mariam Assefa Fund invests in leaders and organizations who work to increase access to opportunity, build wealth, shift power, and advance justice for immigrants and refugees in the U.S. and Canada.
Since its launch in 2019, the Fund has directed US$30 million in grants and impact investments to 125 partners. Through the Fund, WES has expanded the ways that we help people learn, work, and thrive in new places and the ways we help build inclusive economies for immigrants and refugees.
This year, we are launching a new and improved application experience for our applicants. The new interface aims to provide applicants with a more seamless experience when ordering a WES credential evaluation. Applicants will also gain easier access to our resources, tools, and relevant content to support them in their educational and professional careers. Stay tuned as we share more developments in the coming months.
